Join Dr. Luis Perez as he discusses how you can use these supports to help incorporate UDL and multiple means of representation into your classroom learning experiences. He will explore how to use features such as the pronunciation editor, highlighting options to help tracking, scanning for contextual clues, and more. In addition to showcasing the built-in text-to-speech feature, Luis will demonstrate a number of apps that take this feature to the next level and provide options for further customization and personalization. Are you curious about how Chromebooks can support diverse learners in your classroom? In this session Dr. Luis Pérez will explore a number of extensions for the Chrome web browser that provide supports for learning, such as text to speech, speech recognition, word prediction, highlighting and more. You will leave this session with a powerful toolkit for addressing the variability of your students with Chromebooks and other PCs that run the Chrome web browser. About the presenter: Dr. Luis Pérez holds a doctorate in special education and a master’s degree in instructional technology from the University of South Florida. While at USF, he was on the staff for the Florida Center for Instructional Technology and developed Tech Ease for All, a collection of free assistive technology and web accessibility resources for educators. He was selected as an Apple Distinguished Educator (ADE) in 2009, and the Inclusive Learning Network of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) named him its 2016 Outstanding Inclusive Educator. His work has appeared in publications such as Teaching Exceptional Children, Closing the Gap Solutions, THE Journal, and The Loop Magazine. In addition to his work in educational technology, Luis is an avid photographer whose work has been featured on Better Photography magazine, Business Insider, the New York Times Bits Blog and the Sydney Morning Herald. Luis has presented at a number of major national and international technology conferences, including South by Southwest EDU, ISTE, CSUN, ATIA and Closing the Gap.
