Description: This presentation is designed for administrators, teachers, parents and advocates alike. We will review the neurobiological basis for dyslexia and the myths. Participants will examine the underlying linguistic components of early reading and how these components differ for individuals with dyslexia. We will discuss how achievement gaps are formed and how school systems can respond with appropriate MTSS/RTI models in place. We will also examine interventions that are best designed for students diagnosed with dyslexia and why they work. Teachers, parents & advocates will learn about the “must have” components of a multi sensory Orton-Gillingham based lesson plan and key questions to ask when evaluating such approaches. We will also briefly cover what to look for in strong IEP goals. Lastly we will learn about some of the common pitfalls that prevent students from making aggressive gains. Presenter: Marianne Nice, MS, CCC-SLP Marianne is vetted by the NHDOE as a Turnaround Coach for NH schools and is an adjunct faculty member at the University of New Hampshire within the Communication Sciences and Disorders Dept. A speech language pathologist and certified reading specialist, Marianne has been trained in 11 different reading intervention programs. She is a sought-after presenter and is the lead National Trainer for TLC. Known for her "down-to-earth" and motivating style of speaking, Marianne brings with her years of experience, not only as a service provider in multiple settings, but also as a mentor and consultant to many educators, clinicians, and administrators who have seen first-hand the direct results of her contributions via dramatic gains in school-wide literacy scores. If you would like to earn a certificate of attendance, you must attend the live event or complete the final registration step with GotoWebinar before the webinar begins to receive the recorded session and the assessment. Although the recorded event will be available for viewing for two months, the assessment must be completed and submitted within 2 weeks of the live training to earn the certificate . After actively participating and completing a brief assessment, all attendees will receive a certificate of attendance for 1.5 continuing education hour. (For speech pathologists: The certificates of attendance that are supplied can definitely be applied toward the 30 Certification Maintenance Hours (CMHs) of professional development that ASHA requires to maintain ASHA Certificates of Clinical Competence (CCC), however this course is not registered as an official ASHA CEU course. The earned credits will not get entered into your ASHA CEU registry. Please hold onto the certificate as this can be used if your three-year professional development interval is audited.
