Joan Sedita, Founding Partner of Keys to Literacy, is an experienced educator (35 years); a nationally recognized speaker / teacher trainer; and is the author of a number of books, book chapters, and articles on literacy. This webinar presents specific strategies for teaching students main idea and summarizing skills. A thinking process and three techniques for determining main ideas will be presented and practiced using categorizing, paragraph-level main ideas, and the central idea of multi-paragraph text. Identifying main ideas is the first step to producing summaries. The webinar will then present strategies for teaching students how to summarize. These instructional practices can be applied to text that is used in any content area.
Target audience: General education and intervention educators of students in grades 1-8.

To earn certificates of attendance for a group of attendees, please assign one person to be the point of contact for this process. This person will forward the above mentioned recording link email (containing also the handout and evaluation) to the participants who will be participating in this group webinar.
